Summer is here.

June 13, 2008

Penn Yan, New York

Dear Family;

The past ten or twelve days have been very interesting weather wise. It turned unseasonably hot with the temperature in the high 90’s. We received very little rain but the humidity is very high. It got us wondering just what the summer months would be like. Saturday we had a service workday at the branch and it was so hot and humid that I came home feeling sick. Our little AC at home really doesn’t help that much. What a special blessing we received later in the day. We had a branch member come by with his AC. He had taken it out of storage; letting us use it this summer. Now we only have to get it into the window. Our neighbor will help us with this when he gets some time; we hope that will be tomorrow. He has all the tools and will provide some of the mussel power to place it.

When contemplating this mission we thought we would have a Houston and Canadian experience all rolled up in one; it is becoming a fact. Although the weather has toned down we know what we are in for.

We have spent the week serving the branch members and trying to play catch up. We have taught Patti her last Temple Preparation Lesson; everything seemed to go well and we are planning another temple trip the end of the month. Two of our branch members have been ill and we have taken dinner to them. I was able to teach the RS lesson last week; a special lesson on Prayer and Revelation. We have had District Meeting and Zone Conference along with bidding good bye to Elder Robinson and saying welcome to Elder Eide from Los Vegas.

I was called to two branch assignments last week. Preparing the Sacrament Program and teaching the Nursery in Primary. Dad was called to be the assistant to the High Priest Group leader last month. I made my stop to the Dollar Store to get a stuffed animal which I will make into a hand puppet to help me with teaching the little people. We will see who ends up the teacher!

Dad has been working on Genealogy for our past class members; each was promised some help on their family names. We had a Society member here last Tuesday for several hours going over the pile of records that were found for her. She was very grateful for the many hours spent in her behalf. This is quite an undertaking.

I had an exciting e mail from Katie. She and Uncle Elwood will be coming on a Church History Tour and will come to the Hill Cumorah Pageant in July. They will be at the sites for several days. We hope to spend some time with them. It is exciting for us as we thought it would be another several years before we saw them because of their new mission call to India.

We hope you are enjoying the summer vacation time with the children. We love to hear of all your activities and outings. You are in our thoughts and prayers each day. We sure do love you.

Mom, Grandma, Joan and Sister Gray.

Bucket bath anyone? McKinze, Breanna and Hailey bring back memories of long ago Michigan days at Colette's house.
You mean to tell me you can't rotate a vido? Help, I need more blogging lessons. Bre can even do this sideways.

India sooner that expected

We had a letter from our Mission President today. It was an attachment in an e-mail. We received a little history about India and how the Mission home was established just recently. It is the newest mission in the church. It was established after Elder Oaks visited New Delhi, Pakistan, and China in August of 2007. I remember his visit to China. All of the Branch Pres and District Pres traveled to Beijing for his meeting.
Well, this mission is so new that the President wants us to visit with a returning couple which will be right at the same time we would be in the MTC. He asked us if he could make some arrangement with the MTC so that this couple could train us for a few day. We agreed to go with whatever he could arrange. Thus the arrangement is that we will enter into the MTC a week earlier, on August 11, 2008.
